Film Festival News! Costa Rica International and Cinema Touching Disability Festivals!

We are excited to announce that we've received great news only a few weeks into the fall submission season!  White Space is a finalist for the Cinema Touching Disability Festival and an official selection for the Costa Rica International Festival in Montezuma, Costa Rica this coming November 11-20, 2011.

The film has been well received throughout the festival submission season.  We appreciate your continued support throughout our journey at White Space Poetry Project.  Your help is needed more than ever.  We are currently in need of tax-deductible donations to our outreach fund in order to complete the film in time for the festival screenings and continue our work in both deaf and hearing communities!

Please consider a tax-deductible gift of $20 or more at our Giving Page!

White Space Poetry Project is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the purposes of White Space Poetry Project must be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

White Space Short Film Wraps Principal Photography!

This week we wrapped principal photography on our short film, White Space. We filmed in Culver City and Korea Town in Los Angeles. Overall, the production, included approximately 27 actors/crew members, and 32 extras who contributed their time and talents at some point during the pre-production and production phase from July of 2010 to the present.

This project has been a little engine that could! Many of you recall our beginnings in the summer of 2010. Thanks to the generosity of individual donors, artists and local business owners, we have been able to create some beautiful footage under an extremely tight budget.

The next step is to edit the film, add production sound and the work of a composer.  We hope to start submitting the work to film festivals by the end of September.  Please visit our photo and video pages for some behind the scenes moments.

We have some amazing poetry lined up for the White Space Poetry Anthology.  We hope to release it in October!  Thanks for your support!

White Space Poetry Project- News Regarding Short Film and Poetry Anthology

The Princes of Pasadena

It has been an exciting year for White Space Poetry Project.  We were successful in raising an initial $10,000 to fund our two-part creative venture this Spring.  Fundraising efforts continue in support of the work that we are doing in the deaf community.  In addition to our short-film and anthology, we hope to work with emerging artists in the deaf community through artist residencies and related activities.

Most recently we had an event at POP Champagne and Desert Bar in Pasadena, CA where we raised over $300 in one night!  The event was hosted by the Princes of Pasadena, a volunteer organization that supports GLBT friendly charities and causes.

In the coming weeks, we are assembling our production team for the short film, White Space.  Currently we are working on the layout of our much anticipated White Space Poetry Anthology. We are fortunate to have a number of talented hearing and deaf poets in the same collection!  Among the contributors are Raymond Luczak, Zendrea Mitchell, Su Smallen and Bianca Spriggs.

If you are interested in getting involved in White Space Poetry Project, please contact us at whitespacepoetry@gmail.com.

If you are a poet or visual artist, we are still accepting submissions for our anthology.  We are particularly interested in poetry and art submissions from deaf or hard of hearing artists.

White Space Star CJ Jones Performs in Australia

CJ Jones performed a set at the Other Festival Club during the 2010 Other Film Festival: New Cinema By With and About People with Disibilities in Melbourne,Victoria on August 27th.

Rick Randall, Festival Director, celebrates the agenda of Austalia's only disability film festival saying "The festival works to ensure that the needs and aspirations of people with a disability inform all of our activities. This informs our support for the nation-wide campaign for increased cinema access throughout Australia. The 2010 program offers an exhilarating array of choices: sessions dedicated to the experience of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, films that celebrate the power of expressive dance, workshops for emerging actors and filmmakers, a forum on accessible cinema, and of course Rob Spence and the world premiere demonstration of the Eyeborg prosthetic eye."

Along with director, Hilari Scarl, CJ was a special guest at a public screening of See What I'm Saying, which premiered this summer in the USA. The film has been embraced by hearing and deaf communities alike.  The White Space Team is honored to have CJ Jones as a cast member of White Space, the short film.
